Hometown
upbringing
Dan was raised in Pine Hills as one of six children. His father was a bricklayer, and his mother worked nights at the Gateway Diner, so he learned the importance of hard work and determination early on. He swam at Lincoln Park, skated at Swinburne Park, and played ball on virtually every field and court in Albany. He has fond memories of a place where every neighborhood was welcoming, and everyone had a chance to build their future. He still cherishes the values that shaped his childhood.
Work ethic and education
Dan worked throughout high school and college with jobs in the City of Albany and at the NYS Bill Drafting Commission. He earned academic scholarships to Christian Brothers Academy and then Harvard, where he graduated with a degree in Applied Mathematics. Later, he received a master's in computer science from Syracuse University. All that required initiative and unwavering determination to reach higher. To this day, Dan's commitment to those values is the engine that drives him.
World-class business leader
Dan served for many years as a general manager at two Fortune 500 technology companies, where he led major business initiatives involving partnerships with large institutions and government in almost every market sector. He was also the CEO of venture- backed businesses in Internet search, marketing analytics, security software, and Al-powered elder care. His record of leadership and his experience as an innovator and builder speak volumes about his ability to turn ideas into action.
Champion for the city
Dan believes Albany has all the ingredients to be a top US city and is committed to giving back to the place that has given him so much. He's a gifted team organizer and visionary leader with a proven record of getting things done. He will bring ideas, experience, and accountability to City Hall so that every resident and business has the opportunity to succeed. With safer streets. New jobs. Greater home ownership. Economic growth for all. And support for our most vulnerable.
Family and community
Behind every great leader is a strong support system, and for Dan, that support comes from his family. In 2016, he and his wife, Jeri, also an Albany native, returned to the city they love to be closer to family and friends. Dan is proud to be an Albanian and envisions a city where people from all walks of life can flourish.
